My Revitalizing Evening Routine

I’m a morning person and I believe that the best mornings are ones with an A+ evening routine. Irrespective of how tired I am at sundown, I make it a point to follow a strict routine that has proven to be quite revitalizing. It’s not evening yet until I start with:

Jogging

The first thing I do after a long day is to get into my workout gear and hit the streets running. This is the most important step for a productive and lively next morning. I wear a pair of leggings and the most comfortable pair of New Balance trainers that were a gift from my sister many years ago. I’ve been told that the distance I run around the block is too short (2.5 km, lol) but I beg to differ. I think that it is just enough to keep me interested and wanting to do it every day.

Supper

I like a light meal in the evening. Ever since I wore my braces, soup has been the most common food for me. Truelove Magazine, for its June / July 2022 issue, had 11 soup recipes which were a godsend. I frequent the Roasted Butternut Soup with Chickpeas and the Creamy Bean and Rosemary Soup. I’ve begun drinking just pure water and have cut out sugary drinks. I know that water isn’t supposed to taste like anything really but, I swear RichLifestyle Ionized Water tastes better. If I’m a little late for my supper, I like to light a good candle. For dining, I prefer an unscented candle that can last long. My preference is non-other than the good old white Newden Candle.

Bed and bath

Next is a bath. I prefer the Coastal Mist Foam Bath from Woolies. It smells fresh and light. If I’m too early for bed, I’ll pass the time by decluttering the house. I like that this gives my moisturisers and serums time to really sink into the skin. When it’s finally bedtime, I light yet another candle, a Magnolia pillar one from Mr Price Home. I like to read a paperback book to help put me to sleep. I’ve just completed The Woman Who Stole My Life by Marian Keys. I love a book with a good plot twist and this one did not disappoint. Should I feel a little lazy to read, I’ll listen to the teachings of Nick Keomahavong, a Buddhist Monk; and then I slide into oblivion and wake up to the miracle of another new day.

Having a consistent evening routine can be a subtle hint to the body and mind that the day has come to an end. It ensures a healthy sleep cycle which in turn improves mental health.
