My 2022, In a Nutshell
Late last year, I developed a good habit of looking back, every morning, at all the good things that’d happened to me, every moment where I’d behaved unexpectedly well, and each time I witnessed someone being kind to a stranger. Now that the year is almost over, I’m doing a little auditing of my life by answering 10 self-assessment questions. I hope that they inspire you to do the same.
Q: What was your best buy?
Braces. It was my life long dream to wear braces and fix my smile but I couldn’t afford to. This year, things finally shifted and although I still have to make monthly payments, the very first payment for installation was my absolute best buy.
Q: Can you recall a moment when you felt most empowered?
Yes. Doing well on my literature review. It wasn’t an outstanding performance but, academic research is my hardest module this year. I’d done it all on my own so it was quite empowering to have passed.
Q: A good decision you made.
Deciding to create a personal brand. I really wanted a bigger platform where I could talk about the things that I care about and document my professional journey.
Q: The biggest life lesson you learnt.
That it’s important to be kind and patient with oneself. And that happiness, in it’s simplest form, isn’t attached to material things.
Q: A piece of art, a sculpture, a photo, you saw that warmed your heart.
A picture of myself from childhood that I hadn’t even known existed. I must’ve been about 5 years old. It was awards day at kindergarten and I was holding mine (a plastic toy of course), neatly wrapped. I looked pretty as a button in my grey uniform. This picture reminded me of simpler times when my entire family was present.
Q: Best meal you had
A sweet potato salad that my sister made. Diced sweet potato, mixed veggies (sweet corn, green beans, etc), sun-dried tomatoes and crushed garlic drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with salt. It’s just divine.
Q: A new skill you learned
How to do a presentation in front of a group of people.
Q: New favourite app in your phone
Podcasts. Favourite podcast: On Purpose by Jay Shetty.
Q: The day when you felt your best.
Every night when I made a candle-lit dinner just for myself.
Q: Book that inspired you the most.
Two books actually, both by Robin Sharma. My friend sent me pdfs of them late last year. 1st, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari. 2nd, The 5am Club.
And that’s it! It’s that simple. Try answering some of these questions yourself as well.
