The Green Flags of Maturity
Some things come easier with age. True, growing older isn’t always perceived in a positive light but it truly makes us better human beings. In the past few weeks, I couldn’t help but realize that I was a little different. I’m better at making decisions, I’m more conscious of the things that I say, I am kinder to myself. So, for a while now, I’ve been studying people, looking out for healthy signs of maturity that undeniably just prevail when we grow older:
Boundaries
You’ve begun to respect your own boundaries. You can easily say ‘no’ to alcohol or sugar without feeling like an buzzkill.
Finances
Now, more than ever, you value the peace of mind that comes with paying cash. You don’t spend money that you don’t have.
Tech
You’ve significantly minimized your screen time. You’ve become conscious about your eyesight and of how you spend your time. Mindfulness is your priority.
Happiness
You’re genuinely happy for others. And you don’t condemn yourself for being envious sometimes. You’re happy with your body, flaws and all.
Interpersonal skills
You make a real effort to make people feel comfortable around you. You don’t go out of your way to intimidate others. You understand that it’s about grace, not power.
Relationships
You’ve finally let go of a lingering fling because you’ve stopped ignoring the way that it makes you feel.
Privacy
You keep your most precious memories just for yourself because you know that privacy is an underrated luxury.
Honesty
You always tell yourself the truth, with kindness.
Contentment
You no longer spend money you don’t have. You’re happy with your capsule wardrobe. You show up as yourself at events that mean the most to you.
